Nothing can detract from that statement.

I always say I miss Melbourne. But I will always consider Malaysia my home.

That was the reason I ran around town looking for a Malaysian flag in Melbourne during the 2004 Merdeka celebration.

That was the reason I took a tram to the suburbs to look for it.

That was the reason I forked out 96 AUD for two large flags.

That was the reason I carried the flag proudly to Uni, back to town, and during our Merdeka celebrations.

Malaysia is my home.

That is what it always will be first and foremost.

And that is why I will always like the place.

There isn't much I can wish for in terms of change in Malaysia.

But if there was one thing, I would like Sarawak and East Malaysia to be given more opportunities.

Our roads, development and such are years behind what is going on in West Malaysia.

While we are developing, I can't help but think that we're being left behind somewhat.

If we were to want to make a better Malaysia, I would think that is one thing we need to do.

We need more equality.

Not only between East and West Malaysia, but also between all races.

Do not discriminate between who should be accepted into Universities, Schools, or who should get loans, or cheap housing based on race, but on achievements, and requirements.

We're one nation.

I would think that everyone deserves that to say the least.

Don't get me wrong here.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong in what is going on now.

Its just that with news reports of people getting 14A1s in their SPM and being rejected by a University is just wrong.

By all means, keep what we are doing up, just give some deserving people their opportunities.

That aside, one of my fondest memories of my childhood is from the 1993 Merdeka Celebrations.

I was part of those celebrations, held here in Kuching.

I was one of the performers.

I performed for our countries leaders, for Malaysia.

I can still remember what we did so vividly.

We were one that day.

Sarawak was part of the whole Merdeka Celebrations.

We were ALL in it together.

Preparing, practicing.

As we prepare for the 2006 Merdeka Celebrations, again to be held here, I cant help but wonder.

Will we be able to show what Sarawak is all about, and bring more into making Malaysia, truly, whole.

Sarawak Club Burnt down...

Bugger.

I'm sad now.

Sarawak club burnt down.

I got the news from a friend this morning, and I was skeptical at first.

Whats more he's in Australia. On the other hand, Miss Puerto Rico was only able to answer the question posed to her in Spanish. I think it was Spanish anyway.

Miss Japan and 1st Runner Up, Kurara Chibana

With Miss Japan Kurara Chibana displaying great language skill, I would have thought she would have been a better ambassador to carry the title Miss Universe. While Miss Puerto Rico Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza did have a great answer to her question, she displayed limited language skills. To me anyway, I would have prefered someone who is able to communicate in several languages, instead of needing to have an interpreter in tow.

Still, the judges thought otherwise, crowning the Puerto Rican Miss Universe 2006.

The prizes she won included a new wardrobe. Full wardrobe. Dresses, shoes, the like. Makeup, hair products for a year. Tiara and Crown. Not to mention cash prizes from several of the sponsors as well.

Melissa Ann Tan, Miss Malaysia 2006.

Malaysia din't do all that badly. I guess.

She wore a Samurai outfit.

Swimsuits!

She looked better during the show with straight hair IMHO

Her cover shot

Obviously my favourite is still Miss Japan.

Miss Costa Rica, Fabriella Quesada, one of the beauties.

Miss China, Ying Hui Gao

Miss Singapore, Carol Cheong. Supposedly in a Evening Gown. How that is an Evening Gown I don't know.

Update: Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza later fainted after receiving her crown. The spell was blamed on her overly tight dress, which earlier saw her having some difficulty while walking on stage.

Of Golf and Stuff

I had a game of golf yesterday.

My first in a fair number of months.

Somehow, after going to Melbourne, not playing for a year apart from one or two games, then coming back here, I just don't have the love of the game that I used to.

Still. Again.

This time its in the middle of the G8 summit. The GROUP OF EIGHT summit.

He gets up, gives German Chancellor Angela Merkel a BACKRUB, and she is just shocked at it. And thats the short list.

I wonder why I put myself through all that trouble. And we do it several times a year.

I guess its great when the students come off it happy, and submit survey forms with nice sounding comments, which by the way, need to be read and filed too. Then you come across one where the student says its boring and they didn't get much out of it. Its so much worse when the student is one who only came for the morning part, where its all talks by the University, then skips the afternoon part run by us because they're afraid it will be the same as in the morning. Only the afternoon part has always been considered the best part of the day. So they come back right at the end and submit a bad report.

How sad.

Still. At least the majority of the students are very happy. Which is good. Our effort has been appreciated. One of the best feelings in the world. You somehow feel so good about all the work you've put into something, when someone comes up to you after and tell you how much they have enjoyed it.

On another high note, Associate Professor Wang Su Chen gave one of the best welcoming speeches I have ever heard. And as a Toastmaster, I have heard my share of good speeches. She had such great things to say, I actually want her to come back and give the speech again in the next orientation. The same speech. I don't care. And she had the audience captivated too. They were responding to her, something none of the other people who have spoken before done.

Students and Staff enjoying Professor Wang's speech

These things just make me want to come back and do it all over again in 2 weeks. Which, I will. Swinburne Orientation Day, Take 5. Coming soon to a University near me.

The *excited* students listening to a speech.

This speech in fact...

Ayu and Destiny looking after the Japanese Club booth during the showcase

*hardworking* council members taking a rest..

Ramblings of a Dragon on big screen!

Swinburne Theatre: Acting out Titanic. Should they?

You might argue that the Petaling Street Project is for Malaysians, and therefore overseas bloggers should not be allowed to ping the site. You might argue that in the e-Community, there are no borders, and therefore, it doesn't matter if you come from Malaysia or from Tibet, you should be allowed to ping PPS.

The first thing to consider would be the quality of Pings. Would our stopping pings from outside Malaysia increase the quality of the blogs on PPS? It would be hard to say so. If we were to agree to this statement, what we're effectively saying is "We Malaysians have the world's best blogs. If we stop outside pings, all the posts on PPS would be from us Malaysians, and therefore would have increased quality."

But is that really the case? Can we honestly say that blogs from Malaysia are of great quality? Would we really increase the quality by stopping external pings?

Take Top Bloggers like Xia Xue, Mr Brown, Mr Miyagi and Kenny Sia for example. Kenny's the only Malaysian among that bunch.

Then again, this argument doesn't really work does it. The fact that Kenny Sia, Xia Xue, Mr Miyagi and Mr Brown all don't even need to ping PPS to get their hits shows that the top bloggers, the ones that have quality blogs won't even bother using PPS to get their pings.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, Bloggers that use PPS in the first place are those looking to increase their traffic. The ones who are trying to make it big, the way people like Kenny Sia have. Where the pings come from doesn't change the quality of the blogs. Restricting pings to Malaysian bloggers would basically mean we're missing out on a lot of opinions from other places. Keeping the pings limited to Malaysians would be almost the same as closing the door on ideas, and limiting our growth as bloggers overall.

We can also ask whether bloggers from overseas should ping blog portals in their respective countries.

Well, they should. Of course they should. But it doesn't mean that they should ONLY ping blog portals from their countries.

We have to remember that this is a blogosphere. Limiting readers to those from your own country is simply stupid. Why even bother to blog then? Should we Malaysians ONLY ping PPS? Should we Malaysians ONLY read Malaysian blogs? No!

How about the question of potentially harmful blogs from overseas? Again, are we so closed minded, that we would think that harmful blogs can only come from overseas? Are we telling ourselves that we as Malaysians live in a perfect country, where everyone follows the law and does nothing harmful?

You only need to look at the newspapers to get an answer to that. Robberies. Murders. Rape. Molest. Not too long ago I wrote about two cars being broken into. Does this harm come from overseas? No, it came from us. From Malaysians.

To say that harm comes from overseas is closed minded, hypocritical thinking. There can be harm from within too, and we should be aware of that.

BolehLand also poses the question whether overseas bloggers are part of our Malaysian Blogosphere/Malaysian Blogging Community.

Are there? To answer that, there's only one question we need to ask ourselves. Do we limit the blogs we read to those from Malaysia, or do we read other blogs as well?

I believe that while there is a Malaysian Blogosphere, this Blogosphere does not only include us Malaysians. The ones who read it are also in it. The ones who have access to it are also in it. The same applies to other Blogospheres. By reading, commenting, talking to the people from elsewhere, we are effectively part of their Blogosphere. Why should we stop them from becoming part of ours?

Then again, we can ask ourselves. Project Petaling Street was made for Malaysians. So should we allow others to ping it? Its a tough question. But then we can ask ourselves. If we do not allow others to ping it, would they even bother to come and look for blogs? What would we think if Technorati were to limit themselves to blogs from the USA.

As I said earlier. There is a lot of food for thought in this subject. There are a lot of points that can be argued. But we have to remember. Limiting PPS to Malaysians would be akin to what China did ages ago. They closed their doors to the outside world. History tells us that the closed door policy did not do much for the growth of the country.

Are we going to do the same?

All thoughts and opinions in this post are entirely mine. You might not agree with them, but that's why they're called opinions. Everyone has their own. I guess I should feel honoured. :D

0 stars for layout, seeing as how I use the blogger layout with minor adjustments. Ah well. I'll have to complete my new layout and get Nix to review me again. HOWEVER,

There is very little to comment about this blogger’s layout. He decided to choose a standard default Blogger.Com layout which shows a lack in creativity. However, in my opinion, looking at some of his other blogs, and his “If-you’re-happy-and-you-know-it- clap-your-hands” Friendster layout, I am glad he hasn’t decided to design this blog from scratch.

I'm not sure what to make of that comment. I lack creativity, true. But then again I've only been here 2 months. Then the pokes at my old blogs and my Friendster layout. Hrm. I probably spent a total of 1 week on the old layouts, and just tiled my GIF for friendster because I was too lazy, but perhaps I should show Nix what exactly I can do if I were to design this blog from scratch. Which I am doing now of course. So keep an eye out for it!

2 stars for content. I got marked down for "plagiarising" IMdb's stuff in my Mov!e Rev!ews. Ah damn. While I did get the bloopers from the sites, as well as digging up quotes I found funny during the movie, I din't plagiarise the site! Ah well. I guess to the reader it looked that way. Something to note I guess. But note! I *do* go to the cineplex to watch movies, and only after I watch the movie's do I give my
Rev!ew. My storyline comments are also from my own observations, mind.

That said, I do admit I get the following stuff from IMDb:
> Bloopers
> Quotes
> Names of Actors/Pictures

Anyway. I have rectified this, made it more clear that the bloopers are not of my own.

Average: 1 star.

Not bad. Not good either. About the same as everyone else. Good things to note though. Must remember to make a few changes.

Off topic though, the only person who scored high was Jon of Dreary Heavens. He got a 79.75! 4 Stars! Maybe I should ask Skyler to review me when my new layout gets in.

Hrm. The way Nix writes is somewhat familiar. Can't seem to shake the thought that he writes one of the blogs I read regularly.

A new toy

Not too long ago, IngHui made a post about a new toy she had. A Sony DSC H5.

Now, I'm not one to copy, and all. This means that probably 9.86% of Malaysians who go to the toilet then eat sonething don't wash their hands.

10%! No doubt, this percentage covers those who eat right after using the good old Water Closet, but one in ten?

Plus, with 29% of Malaysians not washing their hands after going to the toilet, an average of three in ten people you meet would not have washed their hands, assuming they've just been to the toilet.

How can this be? When you go into the toilet, your automatic reaction before going out should be wash your hands right? No matter if you din't do any business in there. No matter you din't USE the toilet. The fact that you were IN the toilet means you wash your hands, no?

Then you have to think about PUBLIC TOILETS. You know the ones with the doors. If 29% dont wash their hands, then open the door, wouldn't the door handle be contaminated? Then when we, "clean" people open the door, our efforts of washing our hands would be wasted!

Man. I am so opening toilet doors with a tissue from now on.

Move Over Spritzer

It looks like Bottled Water is going to move on, with the latest entry into the foray.

Borneo, Mulu, and all the other brands are going to have to watch it, as the latest entry into the foray has the backing of a large Australian corporation.

Presenting...

Swinburne University of Technology(Sarawak Campus) Bottled Water!

Swinburne University is based in Melbourne, but currently has an overseas branch in the Sarawak Campus. So very the sad.

But at least this time round they din't ask the models to design their own dresses.

Ticket! Whoo
Anyway, we began LATE as usual. What is it with Malaysians and starting on time anyway?

As usual, we started off with a Datuk giving a speech. Much like other dinners of course, it was expected, and we all patiently waited and listened. But why, for any reason, would someone come to a beauty pageant only to pronounce it as PIGEON? Beauty Pigeons anyone? As my table was saying, "coo, coo". Hrm. Apparently Kenny Sia's table was thinking much along the same lines. Go figure.

Then, he turned the page(yes, you can hear the rustling of paper...), and continued to page 2 of his speech.

It is here that we began to wonder, did the secretary screw up?

For some reason, we're hearing things about MAS, with regards to the MAS discount fair and such. Then when the page is turned again, we're back on track. :
Finally though, it started. Very late, but at least it did.

The contestants came out, and surprise surprise, Fabiola was a contestant. She's one heck of a dancer, that much I know, but when she proved she could sing as well, I put her down to win the Miss Talent title. Which, she did of course.

I also put her down to place in the event, along with crowd favourite Amy Teo and Fondalyn.

So time wore on, we saw designs by Bill Keith and Lim Kok Wing, and then came the announcement of the top 6.

Amy Teo, Fondalyn, and Fabiola all made it through, which was good for me since I had placed my money on them, as did Jennifer Jack, Vivien Chan, and Brandy Chew.

Then came the interviews.

With 55% of the final score coming from this part, this would seperate the winner from the rest.

Fondalyn literally blew away the competition. Literally. The rest could not come close to her confidence, and clarity in conveying her feelings.

No doubt her name could sound too much like "fondling" for many tastes, but she deserved it. But then again, it should have been pronounced Fon-DA-Lyn. So those of use who pronounced it fondling perhaps need to control ourselves.

Fondalyn
So, she got first. Novice in the Piston Cup, he finds himself stuck in a small town called Radiator Springs, where he learns a lot about life itself.

Larry The Cable Guy voices Mater

Mater. The Tow Truck. All-around nice guy, and self proclaimed best backwards driver and Lightning McQueens best friend.

Bonnie Hunt voices Sally Carrera

Sally, town lawyer and owner of the Cozy Cone Motel. This little Porche came down from California to escape the life of the big city, and becomes the interest of McQueen

Paul Newman voices Doc Hudson

Doc Hudson. Radiator Springs resident Doctor, judge, and former three time Piston Cup champion.

Cheech Marin voices Ramone

Owner of Ramone's House of Body Art, the custom body and paint shop. With no one to paint, he paints himself daily, and sports many different paint schemes throughout the movie, as well as providing McQueen with his own new look. This low-rider likes to go Low and Slow, and is married to... Flo. (sorry bout that... had to get it out...which brings us to...)

Jenifer Lewis voices Flo

She runs the local diner, Flo's V8 Cafe, the only petrol(gas?) station for miles. Shes a nice person, who happens to be married to Ramone.

Paul Dooley voices Sarge

Ten Hut! This former WW2 Army Jeep owns Sarge's Surplus Hut, selling, well, army surplus. He mows his lawn twice a day, and begins each morning by flying the Stars and Stripes, and with a rendition of the Reveille, which is always interrupted by a rendition of Jimi Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner, played by Fillmore.

George Carlin voices Fillmore

Fillmore the Hippy. He brews organic fuel, and sports organic oil and organic brake shoes as well. Everything that embodies the hippy, he is the very picture of a Flower Power mobile.

Michael Keaton voices Chick Hicks

Chick is the villain in the movie, resorting to dirty tactics in his attempts to win the Piston Cup. He is one of the three cars attempting to win the Piston Cup, and ends up tied at the end of the season. The other two cars are Lightning McQueen and The King.

Richard Petty voices The King

Reigning champion, and a Racing Champion. He holds more Piston Cups than any other car, and intends to retire after this Piston Cup

Guido Quaroni voices Guido

The only English words this little Italian forklift knows are "Pit Stop". He can change tires in 2.5 seconds flat, and runs the Radiator Springs Casa Della Tires with his good friend, Luigi.

Tony Shalhoub voices Luigi

This avid Ferrari fan runs the local Tire Shop, and is Italian to the core. He gets to meet a Real Ferrari at the end of the show, voiced by Michael Schumacher. He and Guido both flip over when Schumi speaks to them in Italian.

Storyline

McQueen, Chick and The King all are tied for the lead in the Piston Cup going into the Final Race. With the race finishing in a 3-way tie, the three cars head over for the finals. McQueen however finds himself in Radiator Springs, and is forced to repair massive damage done to their road.

As he repairs the road, he slowly befriends the many residents of Radiator Springs, and learns the lesson of life. That the journey is more important than the destination. He learns that there is more to life than just winning, and later shows this in the tie breaking race.

Interestingly though, even the flies are cars. Hrm.... They also swear by saying Jesus Chrystler!

Bloopers as told by IMBd, The Internet Movie database

In the final race, Chick's shiny "C" decal reflects onto Lightning. However, the reflection should be inverted but is shown as a regular "C".

In the scene when the new neon in the town is being shut off, there is a full frontal shot of Flo's turning its lights off. Then, they switch to a view of the entire town shutting its lights off. Flo's lights are on again, only to be shut off.

The first time Sally and Lightning are at the Wheel Well Motel, there are two gas pumps. Later, three pumps are shown at the opening ceremony.

The official bio for Sarge states that he is a patriotic 1942 WWII Willys Army Jeep. Yet if you look at the car tag on Sarge it says 41WW2 which would be a tag for a 1941 WW2 jeep.

I've been tagged....

I've been tagged... by former BlogSpotLight target Skyler. Tom Ryan. Main actor. Meant to act the way Tom Cruise did in War of the Worlds. Not much acting needed in this movie really...

Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell

Cindy. The heroin(?) of the story. Not bad.

Regina Hall as Brenda
Well, Scary Movie has always been more about the jokes, puns, and humour, so thats it for the actors.

Storyline

Exactly whats expected of a Scary Movie, chock full of lame jokes, bad humour, and parodies of most of the movies released in the past year. The unfortunate part is that the jokes lean heavily towards making fun of the elderly, children and women. Homosexual males are not spared either in the Brokeback Mountain parody. Examples are the old woman being bathed in urine, another one is beaten up. Tom Ryan's daughter repeatedly gets injured, her head is slammed in the car door, she gets hit by lightning, twice, and so on. The blind woman also undresses in front of the Village assembly.

The movie opens up a'la Saw, with Shaquille O'Neal there. He stands up, hitting his head on the piping. With an Ow, he stoops down, takes a step forward, and straightens up. Hitting the ceiling, he lets out another Ow, and steps forward again. Then, after a voice calls out from the dark, Shaq proceeds to say, "Kobe?" (Bryant, his Lakers teammate, hello?. And so starts the series of lame jokes in the movie.

Tom Ryan stays in a home much like the one that Tom Cruises character did in War of the Worlds, and its one of the movies portrayed in this one. Only, the alien craft that emerges is a Tri-Pod. Looking like a giant iPod, it belts out eighties music, then switches to destruction mode.

Leslie Nielsen later makes an entry as the President of the United States, seen in a classroom, much like the way George Bush was seen after the 9/11 attacks. He is finally pulled away from the screen, then goes to the UN (The Malaysian flag is spied by the way). He opens with a barrage of bad tasting, racial jokes, then proceeds to unveil a secret weapon, reverse engineered from the Aliens weaponary. He accidentally triggers it on himself, burning off his clothing, leaving him naked in front of the UN. One figures this is a throwback from his old Naked Gun movies. He also turns the rest of the UN naked by the way.

Cindy lives in a house haunted by a ghost, which happens to be the one from the Grudge. This ghost also provides much of the laughter from the movie. They converse once, in Japanese no less, but their Japanese goes like this:

Cindy Campbell: Haro?
[hello?]
Cindy Campbell: Hibachi benihana teriyaki?
[do you live here?]

Grudge Ghost: Nagasaki. Okinawa. Okaida. Yokohama.
[your japanese is awful. it dishonors my ears]

Cindy Campbell: Karate judo sumo samurai?
[are you a ghost?]

Grudge Ghost: Nissan. Honda. Mitsubishi Subaru!
[yes, i was killed and my soul walks the earth!]

Cindy Campbell: Harikari tsunami. Kamikaze banzai.
[how sad. my life is also tragic]

Grudge Ghost: Yamaha. Nissan Kassio Iwa.
[you mistake me for someone who gives a shit]
Grudge Ghost: Minota. Hitachi. Sako. Toshiba.
[i know the secret of defeating the aliens]

Cindy Campbell: Buddha! Shitake kimono!
[my god! tell me!]

Grudge Ghost: Camcua. Sushi. Sashimi!
[the answer is within my father's heart! follow the blood... ]

Cindy Campbell: Fujitsu!
[wait!]

Sigh. Just another day in Scary Movie.

The Village, Million Dollar Baby and even Brokeback Mountain also featured in this movie, as is Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson and Oprah. Michael Jackson is seen talking to the children as the Aliens invade, and Tom Ryan yells "Run away kids! Run towards the tri-pods if you have to!"

Well, no love lost for the Great One.

There are probably more movies featured, but you will have to watch it again to catch them.

Overall, a good laugh, definitely worth the money you pay.

Bloopers as told by IMBd, The Internet Movie database

During the Village parody scene with the man with the knife in his heart, Cindy leans over and talks to him and winds up pushing the knife completely into his chest by leaning on him (before the second knife is put into his chest) so that no metal part is visible. In the next shot, the knife is back as it first was.

When Tom opens his car door you can see the camera reflected in the rear view mirror.

When the stabbed guy in bed in the village tells Cindy about how the little boy got killed, and she starts remembering the episode again, look to the bottom left of the screen. The supposedly dead woman lying on the ring with her head leaning on the lower rope blinks.

Dragon_4eva's guide to watching movies!

Do you find yourself receiving glares at the cineplex? Do people around you grumble at the end of movies?

Then this guide is for YOU!

1) Go to the toilet BEFORE the movie

There is nothing more annoying than someone getting up in the middle of a movie to go to the toilet. In case you haven't noticed, its cramped in the cinema, and when you get up to go to the toilet, people need to move, just to let you through. At the same time, you're blocking people's view! Then when you open the door to go out, the light comes in. IRRITATING YOU KNOW!

Of course, it makes life easier for you as well, as you won't need to miss a good part of the movie just to take a leak.

2) Buy your snacks and drinks BEFORE the movie

Like 1, you are irritating when you need to go out just to get snacks. Control yourself!

Plus, if you limit yourself to what you get before the movie, you get to cut down on eating junk! This does not mean you go overboard before though.

3) In regards to your phone, TURN IT OFF!

You go to the cineplex to watch a movie, not use your phone. So turn it off. No silent mode, just simply turn it off. If you are expecting an important phone call, perhaps you should'nt even be in the cineplex in the first place. If your phone is on silent, or it vibrates, and you open it to check, that back light comes on. As of late, the phone screens have become bigger and bigger. And the lighting is brighter and brighter. So remember to turn it off!

The light of the phone is distracting, as is the noise if you somehow forget to put it on silent if that is your initial thought.

4) Keep your comments to yourself

If you know whats going to happen, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. If your friends phone rings, don't be smart and say loudly "HOI! TUTUP FON LAR!" just to cover yourself up, then snicker loudly(GRRR...). Its irritating. Its bloody irritating.

If you know whats going to happen, don't spoil it for others. If your friend's phone rings, please don't act smart. You're making a fool of yourself, and you're not making any friends by doing that.

5) Do not swear loudly and stupidly

Don't swear in the cineplex. Its disturbing. To have someone loudly yell out cuss words at inappropriate times, is just not needed in the cinema. If you want to swear, keep it to yourself. There is no need to educate the rest of us, as we already know how to use it.

This applies especially to the younger, want-to-act-cool generation. Sounding like the words are forced out, its distracting, and not part of the integral movie experience. If the movie would have sounded better with it, the directors would have put it in. No doubt, to be removed by censures here.

6) Do not put your foot on the back of the chair in front of you

Your foot belongs on the floor, not resting on the back of a chair. When you laugh and your legs kick, the person in front of you will be steaming away. How would you like it if your chair was being kicked around the whole movie?

Be nice, keep your feet where they belong, and we can all enjoy the movie better.

7) Chewing gum does not belong on a chair

Or under a chair for that matter. If you do need to chew gum, do not, under any circumstances, use the chair as a place to dump your gum. Ever. Notice I say THE chair. Not YOUR chair. In other words, the chairs in front of you, next to you, behind you, on your way out, are all out of the question. If you must chew gum, either you

a) Keep chewing till the movie is over
b) Use the wrapper

Its not nice to come into the cineplex, pull down the chair, then when you sit down, find there's remnants of you left in the seat. Neither is it nice on the armrest.

8) Sit in your own seat

If you get a seat number, find that seat number and sit THERE. Do not just walk to the nearest available seat, and plonk yourself down. When the owners of that seat comes, the argument on whos seat it is, the moving around, finding of a new seat, which will happen at the start of the movie, is irritating like 1) and 2).

If you wanted that seat so badly, go earlier next time, and reserve it sooner.

9) Don't throw popcorn

If the movie is boring, don't throw popcorn at your friends. Ever. Other people still want to watch the movie, even if you might not. If you start a popcorn fight, its not going to hit only your friends, no matter how good you are.

Plus, your actions throwing, dodging, laughing, all detract from others watching the movie.

10) To all couples, the cineplex is not a place for you to make out.

Yeah, its dark, BUT that does not give you the liberty to start making out in the cineplex. People want to watch the movie, not two people giving CPR.

Of all things to do

Driving down the road, in the midst of a mini-traffic jam, the last thing i expected was to hear a car revving. Hard.

Picture this, I'm moving along at a measley 30kph, in the middle of a jam. EVERYONE around me is moving around this speed. Then. VROOOOOO *psshhht* VROOOOOO

Wah piang.

What is this?

TRAFFIC JAM OI!

Why got this sound?

Then I realise the sound is just from the car in front of the car on my left. Piang.
WIRA.

The thing that comes to mind is Mr Brown's Johnny saying TURBO SOUND.

So I shake my head, and as I pull past him, my car going around 1500 rpm, he's still going VROOOOOO

Walaueh.

So I'm thinking. Either

1)He's removed the muffler from his car, to which I say STUPID!

OR

2)He's intentionally leaving his gear low to rev high, wasting fuel, to which I say STUPIDER.

So the jam moves on, more of the VROOOO...

He pulls ahead, and I see, ei. STOCK EXHAUST. Must be an idiot who keeps his gear low to rev high to sound *powerful*.

So called.

Sigh. Pull past him again. Then I realise something very wrong.

Just as I pull alongside him, I realise the sound is coming not from the FRONT of the car, but the BACK of the car.

MAH PIANG. THE GUY USING HIS SOUND SYSTEM TO PROJECT THE SOUND????

Mov!e Rev!ew

Mov!e Rev!ew

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Having been a fan of the first two movies, I had to watch this.
Wasn't too sure what to expect though, with the cast from previous films not in, and seemingly no ties whatsover to the first two. Pleasant surprises in store however.

Actors

Lucas Black as Sean Boswell
My first thought is how does this guy come across as a high school student?
Someone whos still a minor? He looks old, not even close to what you'd expect a minor to look like. His acting isn't all that bad however, and if you forget he's supposed to be a high school student, he fits the bill.

Nathalie Kelley as Neela
Nathalie Kelley plays Neela, object of Sean's attention in Japan. Child of an Australian, she does quite well in the role. Shes hot too. :D

Bow Wow as Twinkie
Bow Wow plays Twinkie, an out of sorts peddler of iPods, laptops, handphones, sneakers, anything you can get your hands on. He drives a pretty cool car, which has fist shaped reverse-dents on the car. Huge dents. Looks like someone 20 feet tall punched out the sides of the car and left those dents. Real nice.

Brian Tee as the Drift King
He doesnt really do much in the movie in the ways of acting, but fits the bill of racer, and nephew of a Yakuza Lord.

Sung Kang as Han
Sung Kang is the man who initially loans Sean a car in the first race with DK. The car gets smashed up, due to Seans ignorance of proper drifting, and Han "employs" Sean as a debt collector. Han later reveals himself to be a good guy, training Sean in the arts of Drifting.

Konishiki as Paw Man
He appears for less than a minute, but the former Sumo Champion appears as the first person Sean has to collect a debt from.

The actors did well enough to do the movie justice, but not much was really expected from them, as this movie is all about the action and the cars.

Storyline

Sean lives in the US with his mother, and attends a school which has security much like those of airports. Security Guards, checks, etc. He runs in with a jock, and challenges him to a race. They end up having a huge accident, with his car being totally destroyed, and his opponents Viper smashed up. At the police station, it is revealed that this is his third major accident, and that they are going to put him on trial.

Seans mother arrives, and asks if she could smoke in the interrogation room. The detective lights her up, but beyond her, a no smoking sign can be seen. She asks for leniency, as they have been moving around for a long time.

Sean is seen outside the room, and his mum and the detective come out. She tells him that they are not moving this time.

Sean gets on a plane bound for Tokyo, Japan. He stays with his father, who tells him to come back straight after school, and not even get near a car.

On the first day, he meets Twinkie, who brings him to see the world of Japanese Underground Racing. There, he meets and talks to his classmate Neela, when Neela's boyfriend comes along. It turns out that he is the Drift King, the top drift racer in Tokyo.

Sean challenges the Drift King to a race, and is given a set of keys by Han, who wishes to see what Sean has.

Sean proceeds to start the race like a drag, accelerating and shifting hard. He pulls ahead of DK, but gets a shock when he meets his first turn. He then proceeds to destroy the car, loosing badly to DK.

Life goes on for him, when Han offers him a "job", collecting debts on his behalf. Han later places a bet against DK, with Sean racing against one of DKs minions. Sean is given an Evolancer IX, and he practices with it. He wins the race, finishing off with several doughnuts in front of the crowd.

DKs Yakuza uncle confronts him on Han, stating that Han has been stealing from their earnings. DK, embarassed by the event, confronts Han, and they embark on a street drift. DK and his second in command, in their Nissan 350Zs chase Han and Sean in their RX7 and EvoIX. Racing through the streets, DKs second in command crashes his car, leaving DK to chase the two friends.

Ploughing through the streets, Sean somehow manages to avoid hitting pedestrians as he drifts through a packed crossing, only to smash into a car parked on the side. As they watch, DK and Han drift through, DK putting a few bullets into Hans car. Distracted, Han is hit by an oncoming car, and with flames licking from the engine, and fuel dripping everywhere, the explosion was expected.

With Han killed, Sean goes to the only person he can look to. His father. With Neela in tow, he is outside his father's home when DK pulls up and puts a gun to Seans head. His father saves the day, as he then puts a gun to DKs head, who leaves with Neela. Sean tells his father he needs to make things right, and goes to meet the Yakuza Lord.

He challenges DK to a drift, with the looser having to leave Tokyo. Sean and the rest of Hans crew go back to their garage, only to find all the cars have been taken by the Police. They find the car which Sean wrecked earlier out back however, and they take the engine from the car, and transplant it into Sean's father's Mustang.

They race in the mountains, DK trying hard to push Sean off the cliff. He looses control at the very end however, plunging off the edge, as Sean goes on towards the final stretch. He narrowly avoids getting hit by the falling car, and is congratulated upon his win by the Yakuza Lord.

The new Drift King, Sean now runs the drift events. He is challenged, and refuses it. Twinkie states that the challenger knew Han, and stated that Han was "family".

Sean takes on the challenge, and we see the rear end of a American Muscle car. Its the Hammer, a specially built 1970 Plymouth Road Runner. The driver turns out to be Vin Diesel, the outlaw from the original Fast and the Furious.

He claims to have won the car from Han a few years back, and when Sean states that he did not know that Han used to like American Muscle, Vin Diesel tells Sean that Han used to, when Han drove with him.

Its one hell of a good movie, totally worth watching.

Bloopers as told by IMBd, The Internet Movie database

When Sean is first given the red Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, his numerous collisions while practicing around the harbor tear off the rear spoiler. As he starts practicing on the hills, the EvoIX is first seen without the spoiler, but on the first shot of him driving uphill, the spoiler is on the trunk. Subsequent shots show the EVO without the spoiler.

In the high speed chase scene in which they're drifting through traffic, the skid marks from previous takes are very visible on the street.

During the Tokyo street chase scene, DK rams and bumps Sean's EvoIX and sustains damage on his Nissan 350Z. However, on the shots after Han's RX-7 is destroyed, there are virtually no scratches or dents on the Z.

When Han's car gets blown-up, a character in the driver seat is no longer there when the flames go up.

Referee, what did I do?

Scooby Doo is probably shouting "REFEREE, WHAT DID I DOOO" now.

Why?

4 Red Cards and 16 Yellows. Sadly, he didn't really pull off the part of Robert Langdon quite so well. Perhaps its because of the story line in the movie, as Langdon doesn't quite develop as well as the one in the book.
Still. Good acting on Hanks part, but Langdon could be better.

Audrey Tautou as Agent Sophie Neveu
Well. Not familiar with her, but she carries the role of the French Agent very well. Acting isn't that bad too.

Ian McKellen as Sir Leigh Teabing
After Magneto lost his power, he lost the use of his legs too. Ian McKellen comes in as weak Sir Leigh Teabing after playing all powerful Magneto. Not bad acting on his part, pretty flexible if you ask me in terms of roles. However, a few interesting things about the movie. No where is Teabing refered to as a knight. He is just Leigh Teabing. Also, the English Accent is totally missing. At least, its not that obvious. Somehow you expect him to have that accent. Still. Not bad.

Jean Reno as Bezu Fache
I have absolutely nothing to say. Bezu Fache is portrayed as a fanatical member of Opus Dei, who has no self control. Probably fits the title of The Bull more though.

Paul Bettany as Silas
Another way to spell scary. Silas just provides that ugh factor. The part where he beats himself and puts on the cilice is graphic, but the main part is the way he looks. Scary. Well done to the actor though.

Alfred Molina as Bishop Manuel Aringarosa
Doc Ock makes an appearance in the movie too. The Spiderman villain portrays the Opus Dei bishop in the movie, but doesn't quite stick to the story line. Molina doesn't really do well in the role, but he was sufficient.

Those are the main characters. Not really going to go into the others, but the actors did enough to bring out the life of the characters in the book. Acting was good too.

Storyline

Well. Its based on a book. What can I say.

They did not follow the book word for word, but they did well to bring out all the imagery. Certain parts were changed, perhaps not for the better, but there is no detrimental effect on the movie. Interesting parts include the part where Teabing illustrates the Last Supper for Agent Neveu. The graphical use of the Last Supper is amazing. Pointing out all the different things that can be seen. This is definitely better than the book, and fully brings out the effect. The best part is, when they switch the places of Jesus and Mary Magdalene in the picture, you find that Mary Magdalene's head is resting on Jesus's shoulder. PERFECTLY. They din't say that in the book.

The ending was a bit weird though. The movie claims straightaway that Neveu is a descendent of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, and that Jacques Sauniere wasn't really her grandfather, just the Priory Grand Master who looked after her. Her brother is dead, and when they go into the Roslin Chapel, they find the star themselves. After they go underground and come out again, members of the Priory are around them, and Sophie's grandmother comes forward. If you go by the book, she talks to her brother, who brings her to her grandmother, who brings them to the star. Here, its opposite. Still, not that important.

Another thing they missed out though. The Cryptex. They jumped straight into the second one, bypassing the one with the SOFYA code. I guess they did it because of the movie, but if you didn't read the book, it looks fine, so its not that bad.

Robert Langdon also seems to be amazing. Out of nowhere, he gets these genius ideas, which seem to stem from nothing. For example, when examining the cryptex with Sophie and Teabing, he gets the idea to suddenly open the wooden box and poke something through the cover to release the rose. No where did he even look for a hole, or notice it, yet he just opens the box and *pop* goes the weasel. I mean rose.

Still. Nicely done.

Quotes

Langdon: It's an old wives' tale.
Teabing: The original one, in fact!

Teabing: If it's that important to stop us, you'll have to shoot us.
*Pointing at Remy*
Teabing: You can start with him.

Bloopers as told by IMBd, The Internet Movie database

When Teabing is pointing his gun at Sophie and he wants her to open the cryptex, we see a close up of Robert Langdon who says "one moment". He has his left hand raised. In the next shot, when we see Langdon and Teabing, Langdon's hands are down.

In the final sequence of the movie, when Langdon is on the top of Louvre's inverted glass pyramid, the traveling movement of the camera operator and his assistant are seen by the glass reflection.

When Langdon and Neveu are on their knees at gunpoint, the position of the cryptex changes while on the floor in front of them.

When Teabing is holding the gun up to Langdon's head, the hammer on his pistol is back. When Langdon gets up to solve the key, Teabing then points the pistol at Neveu, and cocks the hammer back.

At Sir Leigh Teabing's house in the morning - the time of day changes many times. (As seen by the sky and sun rise.)

Factual errors: Alexander Pope never delivered a eulogy or did anything for Sir Isaac Newton's funereal. He did at one point write a poem about him.

Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Talking in Latin language with Silas, Aringarosa bishop call "Paris" as "Parisi": Latin name for Paris was Lutetia, "Parisi" was the name of its inhabitants.

When Silas has been shot, he first lies down near the wall. In the shot with both himself and the Bishop, he is closer to the Bishop than the wall.

When Sophie poises her black pump over the pond, her shoe is already spotted with green algae.

Right after Silas turns and shoots at Aringarosa he goes up to him. The pistol's slide is open (gun empty)/closed (gun loaded) between shots. Then when he turns to the police, the slide is closed again.

As they are discovering Magdalena's crypt, Langdon pulls a carpet away to reveal a Fleur de lis. As the carpet is pulled away it is quite clean, however when the camera closes in it is covered in dirt and dust.

Pre-1999 stock footage has been used for the River Thames fly-over by the Houses of Parliament, County Hall and the London Assembly. This which means that the London Eye is missing as it was built in 1999. However, later in the Sir Isaac Newton funeral dream sequence, it is correctly superimposed into the frame.

In the scene where Sophie is talking to Langdon and they find out she really is the descendant, there is wind blowing her hair. Every time the angle changes her hair is completely groomed again.

Factual errors: Silas threatens Langdon and Neveu with a pistol which appears to be a Glock. To give more drama to the scene he pulls back the hammer with his thumb. The sound (typical clicks) are added. A pistol doesn't have a hammer. One loads a pistol by pulling back the slide mechanism that covers the barrel.

When Sophie is being held at knife-point by Silas, you see blood trickling from the cut the knife point makes. When the scene shifts back, there is no blood or cut. When it shifts again, the cut and blood are back, and she has the cut/healing wound for the rest of the film.

When Robert and Sophie are in the armored vehicle and handing the Cryptex over to the driver, Robert is pushing a bullet shell with his foot. It falls in the middle of the door frame, yet when the driver tries to shut the door the shell is in the corner of the door.

In the end when Langdon cuts himself with the razor, there is a clear cut, but when he walks from the hotel there is neither cut nor scar.

That crazy thing

Its crazy you know.

I cant sleep lately.

I just want to stay awake.

And watch World Cup.

Seriously.

I stay up, blogging on my World Cup blog (http://dragon4evaworldcup2006.blogspot.com) after the 9pm match.
