Scary Movie 4

Actors

Craig Bierko as Tom Ryan

Hrm. Tom Ryan. Main actor. Meant to act the way Tom Cruise did in War of the Worlds. Not much acting needed in this movie really...

Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell

Cindy. The heroin(?) of the story. Not bad.

Regina Hall as Brenda
Well, Scary Movie has always been more about the jokes, puns, and humour, so thats it for the actors.

Storyline

Exactly whats expected of a Scary Movie, chock full of lame jokes, bad humour, and parodies of most of the movies released in the past year. The unfortunate part is that the jokes lean heavily towards making fun of the elderly, children and women. Homosexual males are not spared either in the Brokeback Mountain parody. Examples are the old woman being bathed in urine, another one is beaten up. Tom Ryan's daughter repeatedly gets injured, her head is slammed in the car door, she gets hit by lightning, twice, and so on. The blind woman also undresses in front of the Village assembly.

The movie opens up a'la Saw, with Shaquille O'Neal there. He stands up, hitting his head on the piping. With an Ow, he stoops down, takes a step forward, and straightens up. Hitting the ceiling, he lets out another Ow, and steps forward again. Then, after a voice calls out from the dark, Shaq proceeds to say, "Kobe?" (Bryant, his Lakers teammate, hello?. And so starts the series of lame jokes in the movie.

Tom Ryan stays in a home much like the one that Tom Cruises character did in War of the Worlds, and its one of the movies portrayed in this one. Only, the alien craft that emerges is a Tri-Pod. Looking like a giant iPod, it belts out eighties music, then switches to destruction mode.

Leslie Nielsen later makes an entry as the President of the United States, seen in a classroom, much like the way George Bush was seen after the 9/11 attacks. He is finally pulled away from the screen, then goes to the UN (The Malaysian flag is spied by the way). He opens with a barrage of bad tasting, racial jokes, then proceeds to unveil a secret weapon, reverse engineered from the Aliens weaponary. He accidentally triggers it on himself, burning off his clothing, leaving him naked in front of the UN. One figures this is a throwback from his old Naked Gun movies. He also turns the rest of the UN naked by the way.

Cindy lives in a house haunted by a ghost, which happens to be the one from the Grudge. This ghost also provides much of the laughter from the movie. They converse once, in Japanese no less, but their Japanese goes like this:

Cindy Campbell: Haro?
[hello?]
Cindy Campbell: Hibachi benihana teriyaki?
[do you live here?]

Grudge Ghost: Nagasaki. Okinawa. Okaida. Yokohama.
[your japanese is awful. it dishonors my ears]

Cindy Campbell: Karate judo sumo samurai?
[are you a ghost?]

Grudge Ghost: Nissan. Honda. Mitsubishi Subaru!
[yes, i was killed and my soul walks the earth!]

Cindy Campbell: Harikari tsunami. Kamikaze banzai.
[how sad. my life is also tragic]

Grudge Ghost: Yamaha. Nissan Kassio Iwa.
[you mistake me for someone who gives a shit]
Grudge Ghost: Minota. Hitachi. Sako. Toshiba.
[i know the secret of defeating the aliens]

Cindy Campbell: Buddha! Shitake kimono!
[my god! tell me!]

Grudge Ghost: Camcua. Sushi. Sashimi!
[the answer is within my father's heart! follow the blood... ]

Cindy Campbell: Fujitsu!
[wait!]

Sigh. Just another day in Scary Movie.

The Village, Million Dollar Baby and even Brokeback Mountain also featured in this movie, as is Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson and Oprah. Michael Jackson is seen talking to the children as the Aliens invade, and Tom Ryan yells "Run away kids! Run towards the tri-pods if you have to!"

Well, no love lost for the Great One.

There are probably more movies featured, but you will have to watch it again to catch them.

Overall, a good laugh, definitely worth the money you pay.

Bloopers as told by IMBd, The Internet Movie database

During the Village parody scene with the man with the knife in his heart, Cindy leans over and talks to him and winds up pushing the knife completely into his chest by leaning on him (before the second knife is put into his chest) so that no metal part is visible. In the next shot, the knife is back as it first was.

When Tom opens his car door you can see the camera reflected in the rear view mirror.

When the stabbed guy in bed in the village tells Cindy about how the little boy got killed, and she starts remembering the episode again, look to the bottom left of the screen. The supposedly dead woman lying on the ring with her head leaning on the lower rope blinks.
